The legend of the submerged bell tells a story of a young widow who lived in the Bled castle in the 16th century. She wanted to build a chapel on the island for her deceased husband, but the ship with the bell sank during a storm. She donated all of her belongings to the church and joined the monastery. After her death, the pope blessed the bell and sent it to the Bled island. Whoever rings the bell can send their wish to the “lady from the lake” and the wish will come true.
